A kind suggestion: Let us be mindful when speaking about things to not assign gender to something that isn’t really gendered.
Example: Bugs, snakes, science, and sports are not “boys’ stuff”. They are just stuff. So if a girl likes one or all of those things, she isn’t into “boys’ stuff”, she is just into stuff. Similarly, liking fairy tales, fancy outfits and sparkles isn’t “girly”. It is creative, imaginative play for kids, boys and girls alike.
So when my daughter checks out a snake book at the library or pets a snake before going kayaking, she isn’t being a “tomboy.” She is being a girl. When we change the way we speak about that we can begin to change the way people think about our kids.
You know as well as I, most kids do not fit into the gendered boxes our culture assigns them. They pop right out, thank goodness.
